Test Code RLTestRef Approved Reference Labs

Reference Lab Processing

The test and/or reference labs listed below are available for send-out by providers following approval of the Lab Utilization Committee (LUC) and Lab Utilization Working Committee (LUWC).  Following approval, labs will be placed in one of four tiers that establish the responsibilities of both the pathology send-out team and the ordering provider’s office. Kits are generally maintained by the ordering provider due to space limiations in Phlebotomy locations.

Tier 1:  The provider is responsible for sample collection, paperwork, send-out, and documentation of the test results.  MU pathology is not involved; however, their FedEx collection services may be utilized.

Tier 2:  The provider is responsible for placing an RL Test Investigation order, sending completed paperwork to the pathology send-out team. Upon review/approval of the RL Test Investigation, the pathology team will place a new RL Test Miscellaneous order, assist with sample collection, send-out of the sample, and documentation of the test results.

Tier 3:  The provider is responsible for placing an order and sending completed paperwork to the pathology send-out team.  The pathology team will assist with sample collection, send-out the sample, and documentation of the test results (either via fax or portal).

Tier 4:  The test is fully integrated with Cerner with cross-communication of both the order and the test results.  The provider is responsible for placing an order.  The pathology team will assist and sample collection and send-out of the sample.
