Test Code TEG-Hep TEG-Heparin
Aliases
TEG -Global Hemostasis
Useful For
CK-R represents the initiation phase of coagulation trigged by enzymatic clotting factors and culminating with the initial fibrin formation.
CKH-R represents the reaction time between the initiation of the clot and the point where the tracing reaches 2mm of amplitude, with heparinase to neutralize the effect of heparin.
CKH-MA represents the combination of fibrin and platelets to clot strength.
CKH-LY30 is the clot lysis, with heparinase to neutralize the effects of heparin, expressed as a percent reduction in clot strength 30 minutes after MA is reached.
CRTH-MA is the maximal amplitude of the TEG tracing, measured in mm, and reflects the maximum clot strength.
CFFH-MA measures the functional fibrinogen contribution to clot strength.
Patient Preparation
Avoid tissue contaminants or interfering substances, Using a 21 gauge needle or large, venipuncture samples- draw 2 blue tops and discard the first. Line draws discard the first 10mL of blood.
Special Collection Instructions
Unspun specimen must arrive within 1 hour of draw.
Collection Method
Use of 21 gauge or larger. Full tube. Mix well by inversion.
Minimum Volume
Tube filled to Proper 9:1 ratio
Container
Lt. Blue (Sodium Citrate)
Preferred Specimen
2.7 mL Lt. Blue (NaCitrate) vacutainer

Methodology/Method Description | The TEG6s analyzer records the kinetic changes in a sample of anticoagulated whole blood as the sample clots, retracts and/or lyses in real time. The system output consists of a table of numerical values derived from a graphical representation of the hemostasis curve, which depicts clot firmness over time. |
