Specimen | Instructions |

Eyelid, Lacrimal Duct | Sample per physician guidelines. |
Corneal Rim, Contact Lens, Solution or Case | Place in sterile container – may add enough sterile saline to prevent drying out. |
Conjunctiva | Sample both eyes with separate swabs (remoistened with sterile saline or broth) by rolling swab over each conjunctiva. May inoculate media directly at time of collection then smear swab onto slide for staining. |
Corneal Scrapings | Instill 2 drops of local anesthetic. Using sterile spatula, scrape ulcers or lesions & inoculate directly onto media. Apply remaining material to clean glass slide for staining. |
Aqueous Fluid, Vitreous Fluid, Intraocular Fluid | Obtain per physician guidelines. |
