Patient Preparation
Use sterile cleansing towelettes for clean catch according to the special collection instructions.
Special Collection Instructions
Female:
- Start with 3 sterile cleansing towelettes.
- Unfold one towelette & wipe urethral area from front to
back once. Discard.
- Repeat with other 2 towelettes, wiping left, center, and right
of urethral area.
- Hold labia apart and begin to void in bedpan or
toilet.
- After several mLs have passed, collect midstream portion
without stopping flow of urine.
- Void excess urine in bedpan or toilet.
Male:
- Thoroughly clean glans with 2-3 towelettes.
- Withdraw the foreskin over glans if uncircumcised.
- Cleanse glans beginning at the urethra and working away from
it.
- While holding foreskin retracted, begin to void in toilet or
bedpan.
- After several mLs have passed, collect midstream portion
without stopping flow of urine.
- Void excess urine in bedpan or toilet.
