Indications
HLA Antibody screening is performed pre-transplant patients to determine their HLA antibody status while awaiting transplant. In transplantation, HLA antibodies can attach donor HLA antigens on the surface of the transplanted tissue and injure the organ. This testing is initally performed by PRA Class I and II beads (intermediate resolution). If negative by PRA, Class I and II Mixed screen (low resolution) will be performed for the next two monthly samples submitted with the exception of unsensitized males. If positive by PRA, Single Antigen (high resolution) will be performed on the initial sample and the two monthly samples thereafter. Quarterly, a Class I and II Mixed screen will be performed on initially negative Class I and Class II patients.
