Test Code Tryptase Tryptase
Useful For
In vitro quantitative measurement of tryptase in human serum or plasma brought on by mast cell activation syndrom or anaphylaxis.
Patient Preparation
No special preparation required.
Collection Method
Venous collection
Minimum Volume
1 mL
Container
Gold Top Serum Separator
Preferred Specimen
Serum
Acceptable Specimens
Serum:
- Gold Top SST
- Red Top
Plasma:
- EDTA
Reference or Target Ranges
Normal: ≤ 11μg/l
Note: In patients with systemic mastocytosis levels of tryptase are, in general, persistently elevated above 20 μg/l.
Additionally, Baseline tryptase levels in the range of approximately 10-20 μg/l reflect an increased mast cell burden indicating an increased risk in patients with history of severe anaphylactic reaction
Reportable Units
μg/l
Critical Value
None defined for this assay.
